Should all teachers have guns?

There has been an increase in pressure to arm school teachers. Do you think this is a good idea?

Yes they should, but only after proper training in the use and maintenance of the firearm. As well as how to manage situations where use of the firearm cannot be avoided.

Some teachers would not feel comfortable or even know how to use a gun.

So, teachers shouldn't do anything they aren't comfortable with? Teachers who have a problem with gay students should be able to kick them out of class then? Teachers are supposed to be the ones to rise above discomfort for the betterment of their students. If it means saving students' lives, teachers shouldn't hesitate.

If a person came to the school with the intention of shooting kids there would be deaths. A teacher with a gun is not going to prevent school shooting from happening. Teachers should for sure have tontake a class on how to use a gun

If teachers are allowed to bring guns to school we are increasing the chances of a horrific event. If we place these guns in a school building, it just increases the chance of a school shooting.

How? An armed teacher with training... how is that horrific? I bet the kids in Columbine or the students at Virginia Tech would have liked a teacher or professor who was armed. Why would a trained person increase the odds of a school shooting?

Teachers should not be allowed to have guns in class. Any student could break into their desk and steal it. Even if it was locked up good, anyone could figure out how to break into it. Teachers could also have a problem with a student misbehaving and threaten them with a gun. This would be a very bad decision if they do decide to give teachers firearms.

SO, the argument is that a teacher might threaten a student with a gun? That's a ridiculous claim. Has a teacher ever been fired for threatening a student with a scissors? They have weapons close at hand, and they aren't using them. Students are the problem,, not the teachers.

Side: Yes

Teachers should not have guns in their desks at school. A teacher with a gun adds more danger to a school environment. If a student were to gain acces to the gun then it would nullify the teacher's defensive ability and add much danger to the school.

Would schools just have guns in unlocked desks? IT is highly improbable. When a teacher has money in his or her desk, it is locked up. Guns would not be easily accessible. Teachers have the ability to help. Why would it benefit the country to stop them.

How can a teacher get to the gun in a short amount of time if it isn't accessible in a time of need then why have it?

Side: No

No teachers should NOT have guns because there should be no guns allowed in schools at all. This will lead to more school violence and would be more dangerous for all the students.

Side: No

Not all teachers know how to use a gun. This would limit the use of the gun if needed

No, teachers should not have guns. If teaches had guns students may try to get into their desk and take the gun. This may lead to more school shootings.

Not all teachers know how to properly use a gun. Would there be a training class before guns are in their possession?

Side: No

No teachers should not be able to have guns in school. If they are allowed to have a gun on them in school the government is given them permission to possibly shoot a student. Some teachers could be crazy and if they do not like the student at all, then the teacher can just shoot the student.

The argument about mental illness is a good one. However, shouldn't this be a concern beyond just owning guns?

Side: Yes

No, especially since lots of teachers can be considered "city people" because the majority of the teachers they are talking about are from larger cities and may not have ever handled a gun. If they have to carry a gun, they should have to be trained, and what schools will want to pay for gun safety and training.

Side: No

Not all teachers would know how to use a gun or feel confident in their ability to use it.

Side: No

Anyone can reach over teachers' gun and try to harm others. Most teachers aren't trained to do self-defense. They are not cop and they need to be more trained and responsible if they should be allowed to be armed in the school.

My comfort level in the classroom would not be very high knowing my teacher has a gun in the desk. If the teacher leaves to use the bathroom it would be easy for a student to run up to the desk and grab the gun and shoot us. There would not be any issues trusting my teacher because they work with kids every day. However, if there is a day where they are stressed out and not in a good mood, it wouldn't be very hard to get them mad and have them freak out and shoot us.
